Criminal Justice System Trauma

Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund

Most recognised adverse childhood experiences and adversities impact on the justice system.

Children and adults with experience of trauma may come into contact with the criminal justice system as victims, witnesses and or perpetrators of crime. They may also interact with the civil justice ‘family law’ system.

In fact, data clearly suggests disadvantaged and traumatised children and young people are disproportionately represented in the justice system.

The justice system therefore has a key role in preventing, reducing, and, in particular, mitigating the impact of childhood trauma.

This new page will be exploring the experiences of and some healing solutions for victims, perpetrators, witnesses, their family and friends in respect of crime and the criminal justice system in the UK.
